As many of you will be aware, in 1995 John McKnight and Jody Kretzmann convened a circle of friends to help them establish the Asset-based Community Development (ABCD) Institute at Northwestern University in Illinois. The work of John McKnight and Jody Kretzmann spans over forty years, the establishment of the ABCD Institute builds on that work and their research.
The ABCD Institute is now at the centre of a global movement for citizen-led action. In 2015, to mark the 20th Anniversary of the Institute, ABCD Europe will be hosting a five day gathering on 15-19 June 2015, which we’re calling ‘The ABCD Festival’.
It will gather together people from across the world who have fostered place-based, citizen-led, and asset-based social movements. We will gather in the village of Ribby Hall, in Blackpool in England, where we will create our own community/ village.
This is an opportunity to celebrate our efforts to ensure local action continues to proliferate and flourish. We are now accepting bookings. Get in contact to see how you can express your interest. We are proud to host this conference alongside our friends and colleagues from around the world, including, in pride of place the ABCD Institute, Coady International Institute, ABCD in Action, ABCD Asia Pacific and Bank of I.D.E.A.S.
